In his recent visit in Northern Mindanao, Andanar, who is also the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Region 10, said the PCOO would be setting up this GCA in Bukidnon—the mountaintop province in the heart of Mindanao—particularly at a two-hectare area in Manolo Fortich town.
In Talakayan sa PIA at SM City Cagayan de Oro, the Secretary said the academy that will be launched this year and targeted to be completed in the first quarter of 2021 would be a government maintained facility that will offer resources related to the study of communication, culture, and media.
He said the academy will house a government TV, a radio center, and has a modern dormitory for personnel.
“Equipped with modern facilities, this academy will develop the communication skills of information officers from the barangay level up to national government agencies across the country. For the first time in the history of Philippine governance, our communicators will have their own academy that can harness innovative communications strategy such as engaging in public speaking, working with the media, and preparing releases, among other public relations and information engagements,” Andanar said.
He explained that communicators are leaders who should not post fake news in social media networks, nor encourage them by their comments, nor participate in hurling insults to those they do not agree with.
The GCA is one of the government’s institutional initiatives consistent with the government’s goal of having an enlightened and empowered citizenry to make informed decisions towards improved quality of life and contribute to nation-building.
“The government has its eyes firmly focused on the common good, ensuring that nobody in society is left behind in the information age,” Andanar said. (RLRB/PIA10)
