Government to allow full disclosure of confirmed covid-19 cases to speed up contact tracing

MANILA, Philippines (MDN national news) — The Philippine Government is now allowing the full disclosure of covid-19 positive to fast track the contact tracing of other possible suspects being contaminated by the virus carrier.

The Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases, according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, has adopted this policy now on "mandatory public disclosure," as this will help control the massive spread of the virus if other suspects are known immediately.

Nograles said with this present mandate, the taskforce hopes the patient's contacts and friends would immediately submit themselves for check up and identification of their current health situation. Unlike before that it's very hard to identify the contacts of the patients because their identities are hidden, so their friends wouldn't know if they also needed immediate government intervention, and since they aren't immediately known, chances of them contaminating others are high.

Nograles said in the past, the taskforce had to ask permission from hospitals before disclosing the identities of those confirmed cases for contact tracing matters.

With this new rulings, the Office of Civil Defence is now incharge of contact tracing which was before spearheaded by the Department of Health.

Confirmed coronavirus positive now nears 5000 mark while the death toll in the country is now 297 – and 50 of those deaths were recorded only last Sunday, according to the Department of Health's official tally.
