Government forces intercept NPA food supplies, firearms

BUTUAN CITY – The New People’s Army rebels here continue to weaken as their food supplies, ammunition, and grenades were intercepted anew by the operatives of the government.

Brig General Romeo Caramat, Jr, Director of the Police Regional Office-13, said three couriers were arrested after they were seen transporting the rebel supplies Purok 1B, Barangay Pianing, Butuan City.

The military official identified the arrested couriers as Ferdinand Dagium, 27, and his brother Rolando, 34, and a certain Marvin Pepito Merencillo, 26, it was learned.

Dagium, the top military official said, was a Barangay Councilor in Barangay Magsaysay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, while Marencillo was a resident of Purok 1, barangay Mount Ararat in Bayugan City.

Caramat said the arrested couriers were members of the Regional Sentro de Grabidad of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee of the NPA.

Intercepted by the military included the following: 4,800 pieces AK-47 live ammunition, two rifle grenades, three motorcycles, and assorted food supplies.

“The joint operation was launched after we received a report on the transportation of the ammunition and the movement of the NPA rebels in the area,” Caramat said in a statement. – PNA
