Misamis Oriental – In a bid to uplift the lives of farmers and fishermen in Misamis Oriental, Governor Peter “Sr. Pedro” Unabia spearheaded the first Farmers and Fisherfolks Paglaum Forum of 2024.
Governor Unabia personally attended and listened attentively to the concerns of over two hundred participants from Tagoloan to Magsaysay, including Claveria, regarding their suggestions, plans, and feedback on various programs and projects. During the event, significant equipment was handed over to aid farmers in their operations. The Minsapinit Farmers Association from Gingoog City and IS Cruz Farmers Association in Jasaan received two corn shellers and depulpers each. Additionally, the Pastoral Care Association in Gingoog City was provided with a Cassava Chipper.
Moreover, 178 farmers received 25 kilos of rice each to support them during the ongoing El Niño season.
The event saw the participation of key figures such as 1st District Cong. Christian Unabia, Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa, BFAR Regional Director Edward Yasay, representatives from the Philippine Crop Insurance Cooperation, National Tobacco Administration, Department of Science and Technology, Municipal and City Agriculturists, and other invited guests.
Governor Unabia emphasized his commitment to improving the livelihoods of every farmer and fisherman in the province. The event aligns with the PAGLAUM Development Agenda, focusing on Participatory Governance and Agriculture Development for Poverty Eradication. (by Gerry Lee Gorit)
