The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Cagayan Regional Office once again provided assistance to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the continued implementation of the National Greening Program through 14 beneficiaries of the Government Internship Program and 35 beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay in Our Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
According to DOLE-2 Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales, GIP beneficiaries will provide service for the DENR for three months while TUPAD beneficiaries will serve for 60 days, with a daily wage of P420.
The beneficiaries will work for the preservation of bamboos and other trees planted in the 38-hectare plantation located in the provinces of Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.
DOLE provided assistance after signing a memorandum of agreement between DOLE, DENR, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regarding the designation of TUPAD and GIP beneficiaries for bamboo replanting and promotion of the bamboo industry , where 11 GIP beneficiaries were previously designated for the said work.
“Through the GIP, beneficiaries can work while the government continues to address climate change through mass planting,” said DENR RO2 Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan.
Meanwhile, Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales emphasized the efforts of DOLE to continue expanding the program needs of partner agencies through the assistance of GIP and TUPAD.
“The regional office will continue to work hard to assist government agencies in advancing our mandate regarding labor and employment and our collaboration with DENR and DTI is what ensures to continue this goal,” said RD Gonzales.
