MORE economic development will be poured in Gingoog City in 2020.

Thus was the promise of Mayor Erick Cañosa during his first State of the City Address that occurred last December 12 at Rizal Park.

The event was interrupted by a downpour but not even the rain could stop Gingoognons from hearing Cañosa, who continued his speech until twilight in time for the lighting up of the city’s fountain of prosperity in a spectacle of water and illumination.

Cañosa, who stepped up as mayor just this July, reported that the city’s public market will be renovated by next year and development in the agriculture sector will be pushed more.

The mayor said he is strongly pushing for massive coffee and cacao production in his city, saying he envisions Gingoog to be the coffee production capital of Mindanao again.

“We are ready to hand out to farmers 100,000 seedlings which they can intercrop with bananas so they will have income the whole year round,” he said.

Along this line, the City Council had already approved P150 million budget for agriculture alone.

Cañosa likewise envisions to open a mega farm that will straddle the two barangays of Lunotan and Baantawan where strawberry farming and dairy farming could be learned.

He added that he is also envisioning an orchidarium, an aviary, a hotel, a spa, a wildlife zoo and paragliding leisure activities within the facility.

“Gani nasugdan na ang road development padulong didto,” the local chief executive reported.

In the field of tourism, Cañosa also intends to develop Tiklas Falls as well as a restaurant and spa which he wants to call as Badyawon Water Park.

On the occasion of the 60th Charter Day of Gingoog City, Cañosa said the city government will be inviting all the former living mayors of the city to be present during the momentous affair.

In the field of investments, Cañosa announced the entry of a Polymedic branch in the city that will break ground and construct next year to be called San Isidro Polymedic Hospital – a joint venture of the Cagayan de Oro-based Polymedic Group and the Medina-based Axelum Resources.

He likewise said that City Hall is now finalizing to lobby the declaration of portions of four barangays – Lunao, Agay-ayan, San Isidro and San Luis – into an economic zone.

Meanwhile in the field of education, Cañosa is exploring the possibility of constructing a dormitory inside the Community College of Gingoog City (CCGC) for the convenience of students who come from far-flung barangays.

At the end of his speech, Cañosa paraded seven ambulances which his administration has acquired just this month.
