Gandamra pours firm support for women empowerment in Marawi

by Claire R. Gigje

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–The city government here has expressed its strong commitment to maintaining support for the women’s sector in the locality.

Mayor Lawyer Majul Gandamra said the city believes that the best way to honor the contributions of women is to commit themselves to a better future where all people in his place can share equally in opportunities to develop, grow, and prosper.

He said that the GAD agenda was supported by his local government unit, which gives 5% of its total budget to programs that encourage women to work with men as full and equal partners in development and building the country.

“We are optimistic in delivering the services to the women sector of Marawi by strengthening the gender and development policies and programs to recognize the major roles of women,” said Gandamra.

The mayor further stressed that they do all they can to support women, believing that no one would be in this world if it were not for women.

He underscored that schools would be empty if not for the diligent teachers who teach the hope of the motherland, while hospitals would not be filled with functions if it were not for the female doctors, nurses, and support staff who worked hard to keep things going.

Gandamra said that all offices would be inefficient without the ladies at work who keep their workplaces in working condition.

He also requested not to forget women who took up professions that were once known to be for men only, such as joining police groups and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Gandamra said it is because of these things that women indeed have reasons to be proud that they are women.

With this, the local chief executive heartily expressed his intent to celebrate the achievements of women as he, himself, works towards achieving gender equality.

He highlighted that he has been fortunate to meet and work with many incredible women who have made significant contributions to their communities and made his city a great place to live, work, visit, and do business.

“Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng mga naging katrabaho ko sa (I am thankful for all of my colleagues in the) city government. Congratulations on your accomplishments and achievements. You have been an inspiration to me to continue the work I do,” said Gandamra. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
