ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – A former barangay chairperson of Canuto Enerio Gutalac, this province, was shot dead Monday, (July 19) by still unidentified riding-in-tandem assassin.
Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office – (PRO) Zamboanga del Norte spokesperson, identified the fatality as Marlon Ongo Manisig, 60, and former barangay leader in sitio Canuto Enerio, Gutaslac Zamboanga province.
Initial investigation disclosed that Manisig was shot dead at around 11:10 p.m. on Sunday while he was driving along the national highway in Lower Lux village, Gutalac, the police .
Based on the ongoing investigation of the killing of Manisig, it was learned that she was driving from Gutalac town going to Labason when the suspect, armed with a caliber 5.56-millimeter, and without provocation, peppered him with bullets. Â
After seeing the victim bathed in his own blood, the suspect immediately disappered from the crime scene and eluded arrest from responding police authorities.
The victim was still rushed to the nearest hospital to save his life. However, his attending physician declared him dead on arrival (DOA) at the hospital due to hemorrhage and fatal gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, police investigators have now started their investigation to identify the perpetrators of the crime and bring the death of the village chief to justice.
