Finals now ongoing for The 5th Mindanao Journalism Excellence Awards

FINALS for The 5th Mindanao Journalism Excellence Awards is now ongoing at Ayala Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.

A total of 106 finalists from more than a dozen schools in Northern Mindanao participated in The 5th Mindanao Journalism Excellence Awards which will have its finals and awards program today at 10:00 a.m. at Ayala Centrio in Cagayan de Oro City.

Separated by high school and college, the finalists will vie for the following categories: English news writing, Filipino news writing, English feature writing, Filipino feature writing, English photojournalism, Filipino photojournalism, English sports writing, Filipino sports writing, English science reporting, Filipino science reporting, English radio news scriptwriting, Filipino radio news scriptwriting and business writing.

They come from the following schools: Xavier Univerity, St. Michael’s College, Phinma-COC, Liceo RNP Campus, Indahag National High School, Central Mindanao University, Villanueva National High School, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, Danao National High School, Bobontugan National High School and Bukidnon National High School.

The following will be the award presenters: Philippine Veterans Bank vice president for corporate communications and marketing Mike Villa Real, Cepalco assistant vice president for customer and community relations Marilyn Chavez, BPI area business director for Cagayan de Oro Isagani Saguindang, Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro president Julino Dulfo, Rotary Cagayan de Oro immediate past president Danilo Empedrad, Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro director Jimmy Casiño, Department of Tourism (DOT) 10 director Marie Elaine Unchuan, Ayala Centrio marketing manager Karina Caragdag, Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro director Leony Quicoy, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano and PhilHealth 10 information officer Merylyn Ybañez.

The 5th Mindanao Journalism Excellence Awards is a corporate social responsibility project of Mindanao Daily News Corporation under publisher Dante Sudaria and chaired by editor-in-chief Allan Mediante.

It is a search for the best campus journalists who are not commercial media practitioners, aiming to encourage the non-mainstream journalists to write for publications beyond their spheres of activity and contribute more to the higher ideals of nation building, economic development and social responsibility.

The 5th Mindanao Journalism Excellence Awards is co-presented by the Philippine Veterans Bank with Ayala Corporation, provincial government of Misamis Oriental and BPI as major sponsors.
