Filipino-Chinese business group offers to rehab PH boat involve in ‘collision’

METRO MANILA (MDN National News digital) –  A Filipino-Chinese group offered to help rehabilitate and repair the fishing vessel rammed by alleged Chinese fishermen off the shores in West Philippine Sea.

The group known as Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) and headed by its current President Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong. 

Liong said that after receiving a call from Jose Santiago Sta. Romana asking the federation for help, Liong said he never hesitated. In fact, Liong immediately oferred to help in the repair of fishing vessel, as well as to possibly giving them a livelihood. 

“The Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc., (FFCCCII) as a business and civic organization appeals for sobriety from all sectors of our Philippine society, and the FFCCCII wishes to offer our sincere assistance and support to our fellow countrymen the 22 fishermen in the immediate rehabilitation of their damaged fishing boat, so that they can resume their livelihood.” Lim said.

He added: “We hope that this civic and humanitarian gesture by the FFCCCII can help alleviate the plight of our countrymen.” 

Liong said they still need more information about the rehabilitation of the fishing vessel before they could answer queries if they could also extend some assistance or livelihood to the families of the 22 affected fishermen.

“Kung magkano, were trying to ascertain so we’re getting in touch with the fishermen, kung magkano ba cost ng fishing boat na yan, I think pwede pa natin i-rehabilitate pa ‘yan.” 

The Chinese-Filipino group president said he had also talked and discussed possible support they could extend to the affected Filipino fishermen. 

Lim said he had also asked the navy chief for more information about the collision incident. He added that the collision victims will receive their rice supply until the ship is fully rehabilitated and ready for use again.###
