Governor Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano, in his message during the opening of 6th Kuyamis Festival, said these farmers are now able to buy their own seeds and fertilizers and hire workers.
Emano shared the importance of tourism development. He attributed the nine percent decrease in poverty incidence in the province to the tourism program implemented by the provincial government.
He also said that tourists entering Laguindingan airport and seaports in the province have increased to 500,000 in January-October 2018 from 50,000 in the same period in 2017.
For her part, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 10 Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said Misamis Oriental got over P500 Million projects under the DOT-DPWH Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP).
Unchuan said the tourism department is set to launch faith tourism this year with Divine Mercy in El Salvador City as the center of pilgrim tours.
She, meanwhile, said the presence of pristine coral reefs and numerous sightings of whales, whale sharks, dolphins, and marine life in the province served as a testament to clean and healthy ecotourism in the province.
The tourism department has started to map out destinations in the province such as Mt. Anggas in Gitagum town.
Heads of delegates from Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia vowed, during the BIMP-EAGA Officers Meeting hosted by Northern Mindanao last year, to work with DOT to promote Misamis Oriental through inter-country travel exchanges and air connectivity, director Unchuan said.

This year’s celebration, the celebration has given indigenous people in the province to participate wile Senior High Schools are given the opportunity to able to display their products. Aside from Miss Kuyamis, festival booth competition, cultural presentation, street dancing, horseshow, and chess tournament will highlight the Kuyamis Festival. (eor/PIA)
