Ensuring security for the upcoming BSKE, confirmed by JTFC Commander

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte—The leadership of the Joint Task Force Central and the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division assured that security measures are in place for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled on October 2023. Major General Alex S. Rillera, Commander of the 6ID and JTFC, conveyed this assurance during the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) XII Meeting held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, PRO12, Tambler, General Santos City, on August 23, 2023.

According to Major General Rillera, the JTFC military personnel are already on high alert, especially in the implementation of checkpoints, and they are continuously monitoring probable politically motivated violence, particularly in areas of concern within Region 12 under the jurisdiction of the 6ID, in closed coordination with other security forces.

The RJSCC XII Meeting was orchestrated through the concerted efforts of the AFP, PNP, PCG, and BJMP as a crucial step in preparing for the forthcoming BSKE 2023. This collaborative endeavor aims to ensure not only a seamlessly executed election but also one that is marked by tranquility and credibility. The significance of this initiative was further underscored by the presence of distinguished leaders and representatives, including 6ID and JTFC Commander, Major General Alex Rillera; Major General Jose Eriel Niembra, Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, was represented by Col. Apollo Jun Lamaton, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1002nd Brigade; Police Brigadier General Jimili Macaraeg, Regional Director of PRO12; and Police Major General Jonnel Estomo, who heads the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao.

Among the key personalities present was Atty. Michael Abas, the Regional Executive Director of COMELEC XII. His involvement, along with the participation of representatives from organizations such as DepEd 12, NICA 12, PPCRV, DILG, and several other pivotal entities, including Mr. Ambrosio Rosales, Head of Mindanao Operations and Maintenance at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, collectively illuminated the depth of commitment to ensuring the success of the BSKE. This comprehensive gathering stands as a testament to the power of unity across diverse sectors, each contributing their expertise and dedication to the shared objective of a credible and secure electoral process.

According to the COMELEC’s calendar of activities, the election period will commence on August 28. During this period, the gun ban will take effect unless there is exemption granted by the poll body. Candidates can file their Certificates of Candidacy (COC) from August 28 to September 2. Election Day itself is set to October 30.
