P73K cash assistance to Marawi war victims
MARAWI CITY (April 7) – The victims of war in Marawi or what they called internally displaced persons (IDPs) received a windful of cash assistance after the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has turned over a total of P73,000 each to the 700 IDPs.
The families who were all from Banggolo poblacion trooped to the Lanao del Sur gymnasium on April 6, 2019 and received P20K worth of financial assistance under DSWDs Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) plus another P53K which came from Transitory Family Support package (TFSP) for the family's food, shelter, education and other non-food items.
Smiles on their faces continued when the government's social care agency also distributed 'Pabaon package' which were composed of food items and canned goods.
Felicisimo Budiongan, DSWDs undersecretary, in a press statement said the agency would continue to assist the IDPs until they return to their normal lives in Marawi. "We will always be with you until you get back on your feet again. We will always be here, 'wala tayong iwanan Usec. Budiongan said.
DSWD also scheduled April 7 as distribution for Barangay Bubonga Lilod Madaya with an estimated 623 displaced households waiting. However, the agency is yet to announce the schedule of LSG and TFSP distribution for the remaining displaced barangays inside Marawi's most affected area (MAA).
During the recent public consultation conducted by TFBM in Marawi City, the crowd of displaced individuals cheered as TFBM chairperson and HUDCC Secretary Eduardo del Rosario promised about the DSWD's livelihood assistance.
He also assured that displaced residents of MAA could return to their homes after the 24 most devastated barangays of Marawi City will be free of unexploded bombs and debris after August 2019. – (WLBacelonia)
