Drunk father arrested after killing own son

ILIGAN CITY (April 24) – Many times, the wine that we think can help ease the burden deep inside but it is also the wine that resulted to so many cases of murders and parricides in the countryside. The reason? It changes behaviors of everyone, when more wines have already intoxicated the mind and body.

A 61-year-old father was arrested by police authorities on Wednesday after he killed his own son by shooting him with his .38 caliber pistol, in Sitio Paitan, barangay Dalipuga, this city.

The police investigators who immediately responded to the crime scene identified the suspect as Juanito Oro Cases, a senior citizen and resident of the same place, while the victim was also identified as Rico Manos Cases, 33 years old, his son, also a resident of Brgy Dalipuga. Based on the suspect's version, he shot his son with his pistol when he reportedly run amok and started breaking bottles of beer. It was not known, however, if the firearm he used was a licensed firearm.

Initial investigation disclosed that both the father and his son were having a drinking session at the house of a relative in Purok 5A, sitio Paitan, Brgy Dalipuga. During the course of their drinking session, a heated argument ensued which resulted to the shooting of the father of his own son. The suspect-father claimed his son's behavior became untrollable and he started breaking bottles of beer.

Police Corporal Wendell Empinado, case investigator of Iligan City Police Station 3, confirmed that their heated arguments prompted the senior citizen father to get and drew his .38 caliber and shot his son.

In an interview, the father said he lost control of himself because his son started to amok and broke some bottles of the beer while they were drinking.

But their neighbors said the suspect was the problem of the family, adding that he was reason why his wife died of illnesss.

"The sister of the victim is willing to file a case against the father-suspect who will be facing parricide charges," Police Corporal Empinado said.
