CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The regional director of Land Transportation Office-10 (LTO-10) here has assured drivers that the process for availing of driver’s license renewal is free of charge and is provided by the LTO through an online portal.
Under the Land Transportation Management System or LTMS, those who want to renew their driver’s license can opt to take the comprehensive driver’s education (CDE) online or at the LTO office, both are free of charge, said LTO-10 regional director Nelson Manaloto.
Manaloto said both schemes are not actually burdensome to the drivers as they have choices to avail of the free CDE course that drivers can avail through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal.
The LTMS is a new system that allows online application new and renewed drivers’ licenses under various restrictions. Under the LTMS, an applicant may register at the portal through www.portal.lto.gov.ph.
Manaloto said those who want to apply, for instance, for a renewal of their driver’s license have to have an electronic device such as tablet, laptop, or a cellphone.
Registrants, Manaloto said, are required to watch a visual presentation on basic defensive driving, road courtesy, traffic rules and regulations for five hours.
After watching the video, the applicants will then answer a set of 25 questions. Those who can garner at least 13 correct answers out of 25 questions will pass and are eligible for issuance of a license.
Drivers who have not have committed any violation prior to application can avail of the renewed license valid for 10 years.
This rollout of CDE is for issuance of license. If you have violation for the past five years, it can be renewed, as incentive, with validity good for 10 years for law-abiding drivers, Manaloto said.
While the driver’s education at LTO is free, the license fee is P589 plus a computer fee of P68, he said.
Manaloto added applicants don’t have to seek the services of a facilitator as they themselves can do on their own.
