The 1st Mindanao Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Summit successfully gathered technology and startup players from all over Mindanao during its official launch last August 13, 2022.
The two-day Mindanao Incubator Summit was organized by the Innovation and Development Accelerators Consortium for Startups Davao (IDEAS Davao) in line with the mounting of Davao Startup Week 2022.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI Director, Dr. Anthony Sales, served as one of the event’s keynote speakers and highlighted the programs and activities the Agency is doing to assist startups, incubators, firm owners, and innovators.
“Technology Business Incubation is one of the key strategies identified by DOST to stimulate innovation and technopreneurship that will help the country’s socio-economic development,” he said.
He also acknowledged and congratulated the six TBIs established in Mindanao with the help of the DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
Among the programs highlighted are the Science for Change Program, the Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship, the Technology Innovation for Commercialization Program, the Young Innovators Program, and the Startup Grant Fund Program.
Dr. Sales also emphasized the ongoing development of the region’s Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology Park, which will facilitate the development and commercialization of advanced technologies.
He also featured the Grassroots for Innovation for Inclusive Development program of the Agency, which helps identify and assess the needs and opportunities in rural communities where DOST can provide Science and Technology interventions.
“Through these programs, we can contribute to producing more startups and amplify the inclusive innovation ecosystem in the region,” Dr. Sales said.
