DOST Davao Hailed as Regional Champion for Best Occupational Safety and Health Practices

The Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) was hailed by the Department of Labor and Employment XI (DOLE XI) as the Regional Champion of the 12th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan for its outstanding Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices.

According to DOLE XI, the award is given to establishments that provide the “best of the best” safety, health, and environment programs that improve the quality and productivity of the workforce.

DOST XI OSH Officer Ms. April Aguilos said that the contributions of the Agency in safety and health were especially highlighted during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when it initiated the vaccination rollout to over 98 national government agencies and 9,000 individuals.

In 2020, the Agency also released a pandemic manual containing implementation procedures of various technologies, innovations, and systems developed to provide a secure working environment in the event of health emergency outbreaks.

The manual ensured the continuous delivery of quality products and services despite the ongoing pandemic and is expected to work efficiently in anticipated epidemics and pandemics.

DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony Sales said that the Agency is committed to prioritizing its workforce’s safety and health through the sustainable implementation of OSH programs and is devoted to becoming a benchmark for others in their respective establishments.

He also stated that the exemplary OSH policies and programs are ineffective without the complete cooperation of the entire workforce.

As the Regional GKK Champion, DOST XI will represent the Davao Region at the national level of the 12th GKK awarding ceremony in the public sector category.
