DOH mulls placing Iligan City on ECQ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Regional health officials of the Department of Health (DOH) in Northern intend to place the entire city of Iligan under “enhance community quarantine” in response to the sudden upsurge of COVID-19 cases there.

In a talk with the local media here, Dr. Adriano Subaan, DOH regional director, said that the Inter-Agency Task Force COVID in Iligan City needs the approval of the national IATF before the ECQ is implemented in the city.

At present, nine barangays (villages) in Iligan City were placed in a “lock down” after health officials detected the upsurge of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases there.

City Mayor Celso Regencia ordered the lockdown after the city health officials confirmed the upsurge of 12 COVID-19 positive cases in just 14 days.

In its COVID-19 dashboard dated Aug. 12, 2010, the DOH regional office recorded a total 102 COVID-19 positive cases in Iligan City with 52 locally transmitted cases in addition to 50 COVID-19 cases contributed by returning overseas workers and locally stranded individual.

Subaan said that the IATF-Iligan is assessing the situation, especially on the effects of the local economy once an ECQ is declared in Iligan City.

He said that the plan is to place Iligan City under ECQ effective Monday, August 17, 2020.
