GINGOOG CITY – A top executive of the Department of Tourism Regional Office 10 (DOT-10) revealed that right now Northern Mindanao is already recognized as one of the best diving sites in the country on May 10. 2024.
DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine S. Unchuan said Gingoog City, Medina, Balingoan, Balingasag, Camiguin, Jasaan, Talisayan, and other areas in Misamis Oriental.
“When we knew that there were potential diving sites in Gingoog City we were very excited and we went to the diving sites. Several dive professionals also came, took photos, posted their photos online and it went viral,” Unchuan narrated.
Unchuan said she is very happy because the diving sites in Region have been recognized already in the Philippines and internationally.

During the Ridge to Reef Program held in Gingoog City there were two main highlights namely Dive Clean-Up and Underwater Photography competition participated by divers and professional photographers.
Divers and photography enthusiasts alike are captivated by the breathtaking marine life in the seas off Gingoog City. This photo showcases a turtle and the vibrant, picturesque marine biology of the area. (DOT file)
The activity was held on May 10, 2024 at around 7AM at the famous Kai Azul Beach Resort in Gingoog City.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Unchuan said she is hoping to make this project community-based so that the community will also have participation in the continuing development of the diving sites.
“We give training to our local communities because their involvement is very vital to the success of the tourism industry in the region.
DIVE FESTIVAL
The DOT-10 director also announced that a diving festival will also take center stage this year and it will happen in Camiguin Island.
“Karon nga year mag dive festival gihapon ta but didto na mahitabo sa Camiguin,” the DOT regional director concluded.
