MAGPET TOWN, North Cotabato – The Office of the Department of Interior and Local Government initially took over the “Office of the Town Mayor, as all Sangguniang Bayan members in this town, this province, are in isolation due to feared massive infections of the ‘killer’ coronavirus 2019 (covid-19) from one of their colleagues, a top-ranking official reported Monday, June 14.
Vice Mayor Rogelio Marañon told reporters ““I was told that one of our colleagues in the Sangguniang Bayan was positive of Covid-19 and we have close contact with him.”
Marañon just assumed office as ‘acting mayor’ last June 11 after Mayor Florentino Gonzaga was reportedly isolated after being contracted with covid-19. He confirmed that all the 12 municipal councilors have also been isolated as they were all in close contact with the councilor who was also recently contracted with the deadly virus.
He said ““We expect the results of our swab test to come anytime today (Monday). In the meantime, we are on quarantine.”
The acting mayor confirmed the said town councilor manifested symptoms of covid-19 when he attended their June 8 session at Magpet Hall.
“Later, he tested positive and that put the entire town council members as possible virus carrier too,” Marañon said, adding that they immediately and voluntarily submit themselves to isolation. – PNA
