LANAO DEL NORTE (PIA)–In an effort to assist and guide newly elected vice-mayors who will be presiding the sessions of their respective Sangguniang Bayan as they assume office, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Lanao del Norte initiated a coaching session on Effective Handling of Sanggunian Sessions for the Presiding Officers of Lanao del Norte.
DILG Provincial Director Bruce Augusto Colao highlighted the basic roles of the vice-mayors (VMs) as both head of the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan and as Presiding Officers. Also, the discussion included the rudiments of parliamentary procedures and generally accepted sequence of the order of business, as well as the basic handling of the gavel as symbol and tool of authority of the Presiding Officer to enforce the internal rules of the Sanggunian.
The coaching session was graced by 10 newly elected vice-mayors, four of which are incumbent municipal mayors.
This coaching session, held at the Kingkong Hall of Jardin de Rachma in Magsaysay, Lanao del Norte, is part of the DILG Lanao del Norte’s field unit initiative dubbed, Legislative Enhancement Assistance Program (LEAP) to assist local Sanggunians to become effective in fulfilling their duties and advance good local local governance in the domain of policy-making through effective local legislation.
