DOJ secretary names 2 masterminds in Degamo slay

BY JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL, Managing Editor

IN A Press briefing yesterday at Camp Crame, Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla named two alleged masterminds who plotted the assassination of Negros Oriental Roel Degamo on March 4 inside his residence.

Remulla said based on evidences gathered by the taskforce and the revelations of the newly arrested suspect Marvin Halaman Miranda, it was Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo Teves, Jr who allegedly ordered the hit and financed the planned assassination of the governor.

Teves’ order was also implemented by Miranda who hired professional hitmen and assassination squad, and provided them with high-powered firearms.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos also during the press briefing said that the arrest of Marvin Miranda was considered by the taskforce as “missing vital link and one of the main conspirators behind the assassination.”

“Marvin Miranda, upon the instruction of a certain ‘boss idol,’ ‘big boss,’ ‘kalbo’ was the one who recruited them and the person who provided logistical and material support during the planning and execution of the assassination plan of Governor Degamo,” Abalos claimed.

Remulla added that based on testimonies of the arrested suspects, Miranda refers to Congressman Teves as “boss idol,” “big boss,” or “kalbo.”

The National Bureau of Investigation said Miranda managed to escape and went to Antique from March 23 until he was caught by the long arms of the law.
