Deadly coronavirus hits 7 cops, inmate in North Cotabato

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato – The deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (covid19) attacked seven policemen and one inmate here over the weekend, and authorities immediately quarantined them at the isolation facility here.

Lieutenant Colonel Rolly Oranza, Midsayap police chief said the municipal office has continued to function to serve the people of the town despite said incident affecting the police force.

The police officers’ test results came out Monday and they were immediately taken to the Covid-19 treatment center, it was learned.

“We continue our operation, we continue our services, we are open to the public. Those coming to the office, please observe strict health protocols,” Oranza told radio interviews.

Oranza said four of the seven local police officers tested positive on their Reverse Transcription-polymerase chain reaction results, while three other police officers are due for confirmatory swab  test results on Tuesday after they tested positive of the rapid antigen tests.

Oranza added: “Our police officers were infected while performing their mandates.”

The police official told newsmen their contact tracing on police officers’ immediate families and friends is now ongoing.

Oranza said upon regular check ups, all the seven police officers, as well as the inmate remain asymptomatic. (PNA)
