Davao Health Officers Undergo Training on DOST RxBox

The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) conducted an RxBox device training on December 1-2 and 6-7, 2022 at the Grand Regal Hotel for health officers in Davao Region.

The RxBox is a telemedicine device that has built-in medical sensors which include blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram (ECG), fetal heart monitor, and maternal tocometer.

It stores data in an electronic medical record (iClinicSys) and transmits health information via the internet. It aims to provide better access and reduce the overall cost of life-saving healthcare services in target Rural Health Units (RHUs) / Local Health Centers in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAS) municipalities all over the country.

RHU staff from Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Davao del Norte, and Davao del Sur were in the first batch of training while staff from Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte were in the second batch.

“So far sa RHU ginagamit namo ang RxBox pag emergency. Grabe siya, makatabang jud siya kaayo in terms sa all-in-one na siya. Dali lang kaayo mag-monitor ug temperature tapos ang sa ECG ma-detect nimo kung naay problema ang isa ka buntis ug isa ka pasyente, (So far, we use the RxBox in our RHU during emergency. It really is a great help in terms that it’s all-in-one. It’s so easy to monitor the temperature and when it comes to the ECG, you could detect if pregnant women have any health issues,)” said Jembo Pawaon, an RHU Midwife in Boston, Davao Oriental.

Dr. Irvin Allamar Llevado, a doctor to the Barrios in Laak, Davao de Oro, said the RxBox is useful in pre-natal check-ups because it could be used in checking the baby’s heartbeat.

He added that people don’t need to go to distant hospitals for their ECG tests anymore since it is readily available in the RxBox, and its feature on recording vital signs essential in their RHU triage are brought closer to them.

“[RxBox] is handy and convenient dal-on, thinking na gamay lang siya na box pero dako kaayo siyag natabang sa atong community so nagpasalamat ko sa DOST ug sa atoang government na ang munisipyo sa Laak natagaan ug ani na technology. Daghang salamat, (The RxBox is handy and convenient. It’s a huge help in our community, considering it’s just a small box. I would like to thank DOST and our government that our municipality in Laak was given this technology. Thank you very much,)” he said.
