CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Two opposition Cagayan de Oro City councilors pushed for the provision of economic aid to city residents hard hit by the imposition of the Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ) here.

Opposition City Councilors Lourdan Suan and Jocelyn Rodriguez made the appeal for economic support for city residents during the city council’s regular session on Monday.
Both Suan and Rodriguez contended that the imposition of the MECQ in the city has displaced thousands of workers following the shutdown of many establishments.
Most of the affected establishment were in the service sector, especially the massage clinics, hotels and restaurants and other establishments engaged in non-essential businesses.
Suan said that the city government must extend economic aid in cash or in kind to the jobless thousands who were affected by the economic slowdown due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
Suan urged the interior government and the social welfare department in the local and national level to find ways to provide assistance to the city residents here.
Rodriguez said she support the call of Suan to provide economic assistance because most residents could not come out of their homes to eke a living.
Rodriguez, a registered Nurse, also urged the local residents to strictly follow the health protocol to avoid the spread of the Corona virus here.
She expressed the confidence that with the residents cooperation, by strictly observing the health protocol, like social distancing, hand washing, and avoiding crowd like parties, birthdays, and reunions the spread of the Covid-19 virus could be contained.
