CAGAYAN de Oro City–Councilor Edgar Cabanlas slammed the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the sharp rise in the price of basic commodities.
“Dili unta mahitabo ang sobrang pagsaka sa presyo sa mga nag-unang palaliton kun abtik ang DA, said Cabanlas.
Cabanlas issued the statement after councilor Edna Dahino reported on the observed price hike of basic foods.
He said the main function of the agency is to ensure that there is a proper supply of basic products such as rice, corn, poultry, pork and other types of food. “Trabaho kana sa DA nga dili magkulang ang mga produkto,” the councilor explained.
“It is sad to think that the agency has done nothing to help the people who are affected by the increase in the prices of basic commodities,” Cabanlas added.
The DA would have expected the supply to decrease because African Swine Fever (ASF) has been a problem for a long time but so far no solution has been found.
In fact, to say that the price of goods is very low, farmers and livestock farmers are dead and if the price is high, the buyer is also dead, Cabanlas added.
Unassisted growers, what did the DA do? When it comes to agriculture, nothing is done. The people are suffering because they do not know how the agency will act, Cabanlas said. (SP)
