Covid’s Delta variant in Cagayan de oro worries SoCot Governor

SOUTH COTABATO – Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, of this province, was worried on the possible spread of the more infectious and dangerous Covid variant in Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog City.

The governor said chances of infecting people in South Cotabato is not remote since the origin of Delta transmission is only 7 hours by bus. And there is also a regular trips of Rural Transit Mindanao buses from Cagayan de Oro to to the Cotabato areas, passing through Koronadal City and several towns in South Cotabato province.

As this developed, Governor Tamayo has raised the ‘alert level’ over the very possible spread of the deadly covid-19 mutation.

Gov Tamayo also reported during his radio program, “Ang Gobernador kag ang Katawhan (the governor and the people)” that he feared his constituents would be contracted with the deadly variant, noting the daily bus trip from CDO to South Cotabato areas such as Koronadal City and in other areas.

It was learned that the province is also a regular routes of big cargo and delivery trucks unload products in various points in Northern Mindanao.

“We are facing a challenging situation right now so we’re urging everyone to be more cautious and vigilant, and protect ourselves at all times,” he said in his radio program “Ang Gobernador kag ang Katawhan (the governor and the people).”

He challenged his constituents that vaccination is still the best option to avoid the deadly attack of the Covid virus and its mutations, and by continuing the wearing of face masks, face shield and social distancing..

In May, this year, the province was hit with three covid-19 variants namely United Kingdom or Alpha, South African or Beta, and Brazilian or Gamma strains, but the patients have since recovered.
