MARAWI CITY – A 38-year-old policeman was shot dead yesterday (March 5) while his son was also wounded when an unidentified gunmen shot them along Awar Street, Barangay Basak, this city.
Colonel Madzgani Mukaram, police director of Lanao del Sur, identified the dead policeman as Patrolman Abdul Mojib Barolbae Ditucalan, 38, while his son was also identified as Abdul Mojib Ditucalan, Jr, 9, and both residents of this city.
Director Mukaram said the dead policeman was assigned at the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) of the Provincial Police Office of Lanao del Sur. Patrolman Ditucalan was rushed to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center (APMC) in Marawi City, but attending physicians pronounced him dead on arrival. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds according to his attending physician which caused his instant death.
His son sustained slight injury on his head and is now recuperating at the same hospital.
Police investigation disclosed that while Patrolman Ditucalan was maneuvering his Toyota Vios vehicle at around 4pm yesterday (March 5) at Awar Street in Marawi City, a motorcycle riding-in-tandem suspects without provocation peppered them with bullets.
After seeing the victim bathed in blood, report said, the suspects immediately fled from the crime scene to elude arrest from responding police operatives.
Meanwhile, responding policemen and investigators who arrived at the area recovered empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol.
Police investigators are now conducting thorough investigation to trace and identify the suspects and established the motive of the shooting which killed the policeman and wounded his 9-year-old son.
