CAGAYAN de Oro City–Leo Rey Yanson was reelected as the president and chairman of Bachelor Express Inc., one of the companies under the Yanson Group of Bus Companies operating all over the Philippines, during its annual stockholders and board meeting in Barangay Bulua, this city, on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Also elected was Yanson’s mother Olivia as corporate secretary and treasurer.
Other newly elected members of the Bachelor Express board were Ginnette Dumancas, Charles Dumancas, Arvin John Villaruel, Rey Ardo, Anita Chua, Daniel Nicolas Golez, Danny Lorenton, Hernan Omecillo, and Alfredo Ligo.
On Saturday, Yanson was also reelected as president and chairman of Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc.
Both Bachelor Express and Mindanao Star are subsidiaries of the Yanson Group, considered as the biggest bus company in the Philippines and Asia.
Yanson was once again voted as president of Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc., a subsidiary of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies, which became the center of a controversy when some of his family members tried to take over the company from him.
As the biggest bus company in Asia, the Yanson Group has an estimated 4,800 buses operating nationwide and employs some 18,000 workers all over the country.
Yanson is the president of the Yanson Group, the umbrella corporation with several subsidiaries operating all throughout the Philippines including the Mindanao-based Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., Bachelor Express Inc., and Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc.
Yanson’s assurance came amid the legal issues surrounding the company when four of his siblings tried to take the firm’s leadership from him last year.
“You already knew what happened to our family, but whatever it is, I am happy because we got the support of the employees here in Mindanao,” Yanson said, as he assured that they are striving to further improve their services in the future.
Yanson credited the success of the company to its loyal and competent employees, as well as to his mother Olivia.
“Mommy [Olivia] is the only reason why I am still here. Working for a bus company is one story; working for a family corporation is different,” he added.
According to a press statement, Mindanao Star’s board of directors reelected Yanson as president, with Olivia as corporate secretary and treasurer.
Also elected as members of the board were Ginnette Yanson-Dumancas, Charles Dumancas, Arvin John Villaruel, and Rey Ardo.
The Yanson Group acquired the company which owned and operated Weena and PTC buses from the Valdevieso family in 2015 renaming it to Mindanao Star. It plies the Davao-North Cotabato route.
