CLGU CDO, DILG capacitate CSOs in local governance

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–In an effort to orient the civil society organizations (CSOs) on the documentary requirements for accreditation by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) of Cagayan de Oro, as well as to gain insight on their roles as partners in local governance gearing towards development, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, in partnership with DILG Cagayan de Oro City Office conducted a CSO Orientation, August 12, 2022 at Pearlmont Hotel, here.

During the activity, City Director Jane J. Docallos discussed the roles of the CSOs as partners in local governance, and advocated that the CSOs play an important role in providing checks-and-balance in the implementation of various PPAs of the LGU, hence, promoting transparency within the bureaucracy.

Meanwhile, City Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya said the CSOs within the LGU are further empowered through the enactment of Ordinance No. 14334-2022, which provides the establishment of a Committee on People’s Organization within the City Development Council (CDC).

He said such legislative actions made by the City Council serves as a venue in identifying evidence-based issues from the various sectors, and to address the same through the CDC for intervention through the formulation of its plans such as the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).

Moreover, City Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Ramir M. Balquin discussed the salient provisions on the RISE CDO Governance Platform of City Mayor Rolando A. Uy.

He said the CSOs play a relevant role in the implementation of the RISE CDO Program through the revival of the City Poverty Reduction Action Team (CPRAT), and People’s Consultation Day, hence, further strengthening people’s engagement with the LGU towards development.

Although accreditation is a continuing process, all CSOs are encouraged to submit their documentary requirements to the City Council beginning August 15, 2022 until the end of the month for evaluation and accreditation.

Pursuant to DILG MC 2022-083, the CSO Orientation served as a venue for the organizations to be oriented on the accreditation guidelines and raise awareness on the importance of civil society participation in the local governance processes. (DILG-10/PIA-10)
