Clarin LGU Takes a Stand for Environmental Responsibility: Barangay Kalinisan Day and International Coastal Clean-up Day Unite Communities

The municipality of Clarin, located in the heart of the Philippines, witnessed a remarkable display of unity and environmental responsibility as they observed the Barangay Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa) in conjunction with International Coastal Clean-up Day on the third Saturday of September. This historic event was driven by the recent DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2023-133 and DENR Proclamation No. 470, both aiming to foster a culture of cleanliness and environmental consciousness within local communities.

The Clarin Local Government Unit (LGU), under the leadership of Mayor Jojo Dacer Roa and Vice Mayor Ging Oaminal delos Santos, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this momentous day of action. Barangay Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa), introduced through the DILG memorandum, served as a call to arms for each barangay to come together and initiate localized clean-up efforts. This initiative aims to maintain cleanliness in communities and promote sustainable living practices.

Simultaneously, the DENR’s proclamation designating the third Saturday of September as International Coastal Clean-up Day took center stage along the coastal areas of Clarin. Residents, local officials, and volunteers enthusiastically participated in cleaning up the coastlines, with an emphasis on preserving the fragile marine ecosystems that abound in the region.

Mayor Jojo Dacer Roa emphasized the importance of this dual celebration, stating, “Today, we are not just cleaning our shores and barangays; we are protecting our environment, ensuring a better future for Clarin, and demonstrating our unity as a community.”

The Sangguniang Bayan, under Vice Mayor Ging Oaminal delos Santos, expressed their unwavering support for these initiatives, pledging to work hand in hand with the residents and barangay officials to sustain the momentum gained from this significant event.

As part of the bayanihan spirit, LGU employees joined the efforts by cleaning LGU facilities, buildings, and other areas under their jurisdiction. This collective action demonstrated the commitment of the LGU to set an example for the community, reinforcing the message that cleanliness begins at home.

The Clarin LGU’s proactive approach to environmental stewardship serves as an inspiring model for other municipalities, showing that by working together and embracing their roles as environmental stewards, communities can create a sustainable and vibrant future for generations to come.
