City Jail inmates suffer from hypertension, skin problems, asthma and other illnesses

Aside from those illnesses found inside the City Jail, the 58-team of physicians that belong to a non-government organization known as Philippine American Medical Association of Georgia, USA (PAMAG) also performed major and minor operations for the inmates suffering from myoma, kidney problems, among other services.

The said endeavor is a partnership between PAMAG, JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH) and the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro.

They are (PAMAG) in Cagayan de Oro to conduct outreach missions and medical check up of persons deprived of liberty, otherwise known as (PDLs) at the City Jail.

Dr Grace Bautista, PAMAG president said she was very excited to go back to this city as this is the place where his family originated. "

“We feel full to be blessed in the U.S., and we just want to share our blessings to our kababayans,” she said.

Bautista said this was their first time to conduct a medical mission at the city jail as they hold their past missions mostly in hospitals ever since the association was founded in 1976.

Jail Inspector Haidee Macadili, city jail dormitory head also said she was grateful the inmates who belong to PDLs benefited from this mission in Cagayan de Oro.

Macadili said the inmates from the city jail benefited from minor surgeries, tooth extraction and they were also given slippers.

"This is a big help to them considering the PDLs need medical check-up that will be beneficial to them as some PDLs are complaining of toothaches," the jail officer pointed out.

JO3 Orlando V. Montalban, information and community relations service officer of the city jail male dormitory, also added the city jail has a crowded population of 1600 inmates and BJMP alone has no capability to handle the issues and concerns of PDLs. (persons deprived of liberty)

Montalban claimed there are only five nurses who serve everyday and handle the problems of PDLs

“Atong hinumduman nga ang kinabuhi diri sa jail dili man gyud sayon tungod pud sa ilang ka daghanon, kini nga jail is ideally for 291 unta ka mga inmates pero karon ni abot na sila og 1,600 unya tungod sa congestion daghan pud nga mga sakit ilang bation so dako na atong pa salamat ana,” Montalban said in vernacular. – with Harriet Larede
