ILIGAN CITY —– After two weeks of surviellance, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated around two thousand kilos of ripe and unripe ‘lakatan’ in an entrapment operation, Wednesday morning, April 1, inside a warehouse at Aguinaldo Street in Barangay Palao, here.
Lakatan is a variety of banana.
The warehouse was described by the CIDG as ‘big that it can supply hundreds of kilos to the market’.
Major William Maisog, officer-in-charge of CIDG Iligan, said the operation was conducted series of complaints were forwarded to their office for overpricing.
Instead of 50 pesos per kilo, those were sold to 90 pesos.
Together with the Department the of Trade and Industry, the City Agriculture Office and Iligan City Police Station 5, four were arrested that include the two female owners, a female cashier and a male helper.
The green unripe bananas are being locked inside the warehouse while the ripe ones were donated to the frontliners and check points.
The arrested personalities are temporarily detained at the CIDG headquarters in Barangay Tipanoy.
They are facing cases of violation of Republic Act 10623 or the Price Act and RA 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
