Checkpoint police discover firearm, shabu in a paper bag thrown by 2 riding-in-tandem

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao – Police authorities manning a checkpoint between the borders of Maguindanao and South Cotabato here found a paper bag thrown beside the road on Sunday, which when checked contained an Uzi machine pistol, a magazine, and two sachets of shabu.

Lt. Ramillo Serame, Mangudadatu town police chief, said the paper bag was thrown by two men on board a motorbike.

Serame said police officers who were manning a Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion near the South Cotabato border were alerted when the two men stopped a few meters away from the checkpoint on Sunday at 4:00p.m.

He said the men were supposed to go to Mangudadatu in Maguindanao from Tantangan, South Cotabato.

However, he said the two backed off after seeing strict police inspection at the checkpoint.

“They threw the paper bag beside the road,” Serame said.

Later, he said the two men fled using the same motorbike back to South Cotabato.

Serame believed the two suspects belonged to an organized crime group that is involved in various illegal activities in the town and nearby communities.

With this, Serame vowed to intensify the implementation of anti-criminality law enforcement operations in Mangudadatu and other areas under their jurisdiction.
