CDO City Jail unveils male dormitory markers

by Irene Joy B. Dayo

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory held a ribbon-cutting, blessing, and unveiling of three significant markers, May 9.

City Jail Warden PSUPT William T. Manengyao said this initiative is a part of upholding the highest quality of public service to the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), especially in welcoming their visitors.

“This activity is indeed a reminder of our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality of public service, especially to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under our ward, with integrity, responsibility at the core. Sabi nga (they say), a business without a name is a sign of no business. So, kailangan talaga ng (there is really a need for) signage or marker,” the warden said.

For his part, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-10 Director Cesar M. Langawin shared that the new facade and significant markers are the epitome of a new milestone for the Jail Bureau.

“Diyan na po papasok ang ating visitors and at the same time ang mga personnel ng Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory. Upang sa gayon ay mapangalagaan natin ang security at saka ‘yung pinapasok na mga gamit at padala sa ating mga PDL. Magkakaroon na ng privacy ang ating mga visitors kung sakali dadalaw sila sa kanilang loved ones na nandito sa loob ng jail,” he said.

(Our visitors will enter there, along with the personnel of the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory. So that we can take care of the security and also the goods and shipments that are entered in our PDLs. Our visitors will have privacy if they visit their loved ones who are here inside the jail)

Langawin also shared that visits to PDLs were not allowed during the pandemic; hence, when the lockdown was lifted, an advisory already allowing visitors from their headquarters was released. The same reason that the implementation of the facade and marker project was continued

“For the information of everyone, even though may resumption ng mga dalaw (visitations have resumed), we still observe healthy protocols,” he added.

The regional director also called out to the public to continuously support the PDLs by buying their local products, such as acrylic canvas paintings, wood carvings, furniture, food items, pastries, and handmade crafts. These items are made through the City Jail’s livelihood and skills enhancement program, which allows PDLs to be productive and provide for the needs of their families even inside the jail.

“Ako po ay nananawagan sa ating mga kasamahan at may mabubuting puso na, please let us help our PDLs na bumili ng kanilang mga produkto. We have products here at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail—male and female dormitories. Sa kunting bili ng kanilang products ay maraming pamilya na po ang matutulungan,” the director said.

(I am calling on our colleagues and those who have good hearts to please let us help our PDLs. Please buy their products. We have products here at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail—male and female dormitories. With the small price of their products, many families can be helped)
