CCCDO Intramurals Kickoff Brings Excitement and Unity

By: James Murillo Elaco

The City College of Cagayan de Oro opened its three-day Intramurals with excitement, cheers, and strong school spirit as students from all colleges gathered at the Covered Court for the official kickoff on November 26. The event brought together athletes, performers, faculty, and staff to celebrate sports, teamwork, and camaraderie.

The opening program began with a parade of teams, followed by the national and institutional hymns. The Opening Salvo energized the crowd as student leaders and contestants of Mr. and Ms. Intrams performed a lively number. Messages of support from school officials highlighted the importance of unity and fair play throughout the games.

In his message, College President Dr. Jestoni P. Babia reminded students of the deeper meaning behind the celebration. “Sportsmanship is more than winning or losing. It is about building relationships, learning from each other, and showing who we truly are as CCCDO students,” he said, encouraging everyone to uphold respect and teamwork in every event.

After the ceremonies, traditional Filipino games such as Luksong Lubid, Tug of War, Pamamalengke ni Mario, and Egg Catching filled the gym with cheers and laughter. Students from various colleges teamed up, creating moments of friendly competition and shared enjoyment. Arnis exhibitions, E-sports matches, and a singing competition kept the campus lively throughout the afternoon.

The next two days will feature major sports events, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, and table tennis. One of the most awaited highlights is the Mr. and Ms. Intrams pageant on the evening of Day 2, where candidates will showcase talent, poise, and confidence.

Overall, the Intramurals aim to strengthen unity among students while giving them opportunities to display their skills in both sports and the arts. As competitions continue, CCCDO celebrates not only athletic ability but also the spirit of togetherness that defines the college community. (JME/ONP)
