Cargo vessel sinks off Misor waters, 7 crew members rescued

CAGAYAN de Oro City–Authorities rescued all the seven crews, including the boat captain of the cargo vessel that sank off the waters of Sugbongcogon in Misamis Oriental Tuesday afternoon.

Police Lt. Theofratus S. Pia, spokessperson of Misamis Oriental Police Office, said MLJJBA SEABREESE, a cargo vessel from Opol town in Misamis Oriental is bound for Surigao City when it sank around 5:55 p.m.

Pia said the vessel is loaded with 13,500 cases of San Miguel Beer.

He said all the crews including ship captain 52-year-old Ferdinand Bangcoyo and his live-in partner a cerrtain Nandy Lanzaderas, all residents of Siargao island were rescued.

Also rescued were Berden Ilandag, 38;
Robert Mondragon, 22; Leo Dorero, 21;
and Procopio Spijon, 33, all residents of Siargao island.

He said the Philippine Coast Guard in Misamis Oriental managed to organize a quick rescue teams compose of the members from the Municipal emergency response office with the help of some local fishermen in the area.

He said the all the crews and three other passengers were safely brought alive at Purok 6 in Barangay Mangga in Sugbongcogon town, Misamis Oriental on Tuesday night.

Pia said the crews told him that they were traversing from Opol, Misamis Oriental going to Siargao island in Surigao del Norte when their cargo vessel was hit by a strong waves after reaching off the waters of Sugbongcogon in Misamis Oriental.

Pia identified the owner of MLJJBA SEABREESE as a certain Willian Himina, a resident of San Juan, Surigao City.
