Caraga leaves 2022 with 94 Covid-19 cases, 62K total infections

BUTUAN City – Caraga Region reeled off from 2022 with 62,750 a cumulative coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) since the pandemic broke out over two years ago, entering the New Year with 94 remaining active cases.

In a statement Wednesday, the regional Department of Health (DOH-13) office said the region recorded some 60,301 recoveries, with 2,355 Covid-19-related deaths since March 2020.

Of the total infections, DOH-13 said Agusan del Sur had 14,628 Covid-19 cases; Surigao del Sur, 9,474; Agusan del Norte, 5,236; Surigao del Norte, 4,187; and Dinagat Islands, 1,751.

Among cities in the region, Butuan topped with 15,265 cases; Surigao, 2,899; Bislig, 2,813; Bayugan, 2,496; Tandag, 2,295; and Cabadbaran, 1,706.

From Dec. 25 to 31 last year, DOH-13 said only 37 new infections were recorded in the region.

The new cases were recorded in Surigao del Sur with 12, Agusan del Sur (5), Surigao del Norte (2), Agusan del Norte (1) and none in Dinagat Islands.

In the cities, Butuan had seven new cases; Bislig, Surigao, and Tandag with three cases each; and Bayugan with one.

“During the last week of 2022, only one recovery was recorded in the region and two Covid-19-related deaths,” DOH-13 said.

The agency said it will continue to intensify its vaccination campaign in 2023, with the support of the local government units and other stakeholders.

As of Dec. 29 last year, the region attained a 91.5 percent vaccination rate with 1,765,591 residents fully vaccinated.

More than 3.9 million Covid-19 vaccines were also administered in the region in 2022, DOH-13 said. (PNA)
