Caraga joins the Simultaneous Nationwide Tree Planting
Activity

Per DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2022-111 dated September 7, 2022, entitled “Conduct of Simultaneous Nationwide Tree Planting Activity: Buhayin ang Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan” and DILG Advisory dated September 2, 2022, entitled “Supplemental Advisory re Conduct of Tree Planting Activity on September 13, 2022”, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the local government units of the planting sites spearheaded the activity. Different national government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders of Caraga Region joined the nation in the conduct of simultaneous tree planting activity on September 13, 2022.

For Caraga Region, there were 12 planting sites identified by the DENR in the five (5) provinces and Butuan City, namely, Sitio Malihao, Brgy. Bonbon, Butuan City; Sitio Makasihi, Brgy. Camagong, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte; Roadside within CARBDP Flood Control Project of DPWH located at Barangays Baan Riverside, Mahogany, Banza and Maug, Butuan City; Brgy. Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; Brgy. Pangaylan IP, Santiago, Agusan del Norte; Brgy. Karaos, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur; Brgy. Hawilian Tree Park, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur; Brgy. Sinobong, Veruela, Agusan del Sur; Km. 23, Brgy. Nuevo Trabajo, San Luis, Agusan del Sur; Brgy. Cagniog, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte; Tinuy-an Falls Protected Landscape, Brgy. Burboanan, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur; and Brgy. Benglen, Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. Various species of trees were planted in these areas based on their suitability and adaptability, such as Kadamba, Kalumpit, Narra, Camagong, Betanggol, Acacia, Pili, Dao, Patong, Bakauan, Lauan, Sagimsim, Nato, Mayapis, and Agoho trees.

The convergence of regional line agencies and concerned stakeholders was at the roadside within CARBDP Flood Control Project of DPWH located at Barangays Baan Riverside, Mahogany, Banza and Maug, Butuan City. A short program hosted by the DILG took place before the planting proper, where DENR Caraga Regional Executive Director Nonito M. Tamayo, CESO III gave a message of support and encouragement to all the participants. “I hope you will all actively participate in this activity since this is just one of the many celebrations and activities for this month of September and I hope you will be vigilant on the issues on climate change”, he stressed. City Director Charissa T. Guerta, CESO V of DILG Butuan also give a message on behalf of DILG Caraga Regional Director Lilibeth A. Famacion, CESO III. She encouraged proactive action and measures towards climate change and other environmental concerns, “taking care of the environment is everybody’s concern and responsibility, so we should all be actively part of it”, she enjoined the participants.

The program ended with a ceremonial tree planting by the heads of agencies present immediately followed by the simultaneous tree planting.
