Camp Siongco, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – Seven (7) considered high-powered loose firearms were voluntarily turned-over by seven (7) barangay leaders in the town of Carmen province of Cotabato Wednesday morning of July 27, 2022.
The occasion was part of the intensified campaign of Balik Baril Program under 602nd Infantry Brigade and the local government of Carmen, Cotabato Province to eradicate loose firearms.
Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Mundala, Battalion Commander of 90th Infantry Battalion said the surrendered weapons composed of six (6) M1 Garand Rifle and one (1) M14 Rifle.
“These surrendered firearms will be currently deposited under our custody for proper disposition. We are still hoping that some of the constituents in this town will do the same”, says Lt. Col. Mundala.
Brigadier General Jovencio Gonzales, Brigade Commander of 602Bde said that the possibilities of the kind of undertaking were not be made possible if not of the help from the local government.
“We are thankful for the seven Punong Barangays of Carmen who voluntarily yield the assorted high-powered firearms with the collaboration from Municipal Local Government of Carmen”, Brig. Gen. Gonzales said.
Major General Roberto Capulong, Joint Task Force Central and 6ID Commander expressed his appreciation for the solid support and commitment of the LGU for this undertaking. He also promotes among the stakeholders to continue to foster the essential need for cooperation to attain the peaceful environment of the place.
“This exemplifies the harmonious relationship among the peace advocates, the security sector, local chief executives, local leaders, and the communities. Rest assured that we will continue to employ the whole-of-nation approach of the government to end lawlessness and criminalities in our area of operation”, Maj. Gen. Capulong said in his statement.
