CAMIGUIN ISLAND (MDN Mindanao News digital) – Police authorities in Camiguin Island reported that three call center agents from IBEX Global Davao died on the spot after the van they were onboard figured in an accident Saturday morning. (June 22)
The white Toyota Hi-ace van, driven by Joy Sobremisana, was carrying 13 passengers when the accident happened in sitio Quipasa, Barangay Poblacion in Mambajao, Camiguin Island.
Capt Arnold Gaabucayan, chief of police of Mambajao town identified the three fatalities as Ian Jumahalili, Jovert de Asis and Julie Ann Mae Olive, all residents of Davao City. They all died on the spot, police probers said.
Those who were injured were also identified as Rustom Porosuelo, Jimmy Vic Morensillo, 21-year-old; Glyn Ann Sabacajan, 34-yearold; Peter Anthony Cantila, 26-year-old; Jeffrey Dismas, legal age; Ernesto Ong, 24-year-old; Jeffrey Golingay, 33-year-old, married; Rose Ann Balaba, legal age; Eric Opao, 38 year-old, and a 4-year-old kid Miko Golingay. They suffered minor bruises and they were also rushed to Camiguin Provincial Hospital for immediate treatment.
Gaabucayan told reporters most of the passengers onboard the van were workers of IBEX Global and their families. The call center agents were having their company’s team building activity in Camiguin Island, it was learned.
Police investigation disclosed that the group arrived in Camiguin on Saturday morning. Upon arriving, the group toured the Island until 12 noon. One of their itineraries include going to the White island but since it was already afternoon the group decided to go to Saay Cold Spring which was only near the Poblacion in Mambajao.
They didn’t stay long at Saay Spring and went back. Unfortunately, while they were at the downhill road in sitio Kipasa the Van they were riding suddenly lost its brake and they met a tragic accident, killing three of their peers on the spot, while injuring 10 others, the police investigation said.
After losing the brake, the driver also lost control of the vehicle, until it crashed into an open field. Rescuers and immediate responders arrived and brought the victims at the provincial hospital for treatment. ###
