Camiguin espouses self-discipline, teamwork in NMRAA 2023

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Promoting physical education and encouraging sports programs and league competitions, the Department of Education (DepED)-10, together with the Provincial Government of Camiguin, kicks off the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association Meet (NMRAA) 2023 to uphold self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence among learners, May 4, at the Cong. PPR Tourism and Sports Complex.

From May 5-7, 2023, over 14 delegations and 1689 student-athletes from Region 10 competed in Arnis, Billiards, Boxing, Pencak Silat, Swimming, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.

“It is really an honor, it’s really a privilege, and not everyone—dili man tanan estudyante, dili tanan athletes gets the chance nga mag-compete para sa imong home province or sa imong home city. For students, student-athletes, I remember when we were in high school, lahi gyud ang honor nga makarepresent ka sa inyong lugar,” Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo said.

On May 5, 2023, over 252 competitors from the five provinces in Region 10 compete in swimming at the PPR Tourism and Sports Complex. There are 2 delegates from Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro (40), Camiguin (12), El Salvador City (12), Iligan City (32), Lanao del Norte (40), Malaybalay City (40), Misamis Oriental (38), Ozamiz City (20), Tangub City (30), and Valencia City (40). For his part, DepEd-10 Regional Director Arturo Bayocot commended the strong support of the provincial government and responded positively to the request of Gov. Romualdo to solely host the NMRAA.

The Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Meet (NMRAA) unites delegates from all over Bukidnon (32), Cagayan de Oro (32), Camiguin (5), Iligan City (32) Lanao del Norte (21), Malaybalay City (32), Misamis Oriental (38), Misamis Occidental (10), Oroquieta City (7), Tangub City (17), and Valencia City (22) in participating in taekwondo sparring and ‘poomsae’ as they perform their self-defense techniques. “With the very strong leadership of the provincial government here in Camiguin, the very dynamic leader, Atty. and Hon. XJ Romualdo, backed up by the strong leaders of the local government units of the five municipalities, and with the guidance of the lone congressman of Camiguin, Hon. JJ Romualdo, as the regional director, and with the key consultation with the regional technical working group and the superintendents of the five provinces and nine cities, I officially declare that the 2024 Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association Meet centralized for games will be done right here in the Province of Camiguin,” Bayocot said.

Gov. Romualdo, Rep. Jesus Jurdin Romualdo, the local chief executives of the province’s towns, school division superintendents, and district officials led the raising of delegation banners to start the celebration.

Following a mass dance and fireworks display, ASEAN Games Cross Country Champion Miguel J. Navarro lit the Urn of Unity and Peace to bring the program to a close. (GKND/RTP/PIA-10)
