The Department of Environment and Natural Resources joined the Philippine Environment Month Celebration nationwide simultaneous tree planting on June 8, 2022 and Arbor Day on June 25, to help restore the region’s forest cover.
Anchored on this year’s global theme “Only One Earth”; the country observes the month-long event with the local theme “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo.” This highlights the call for action to celebrate, protect and restore our planet.
June was declared as Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on April 4, 1988.
A total of 24,145 seedlings of various forest and fruit- bearing tree species, such as Narra, Molave, Bamboo, Lanzones, Mangosteen, Rambutan and other indigenous tree species were planted during the tree growing activity on June 8 at Malasag Reforestation Project, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.
Also, there are 5,159 participants who planted 29,061 seedlings of indigenous tree species namely Narra, Molave and fruit trees like Lanzones, Mangosteen, Rambutan and Bamboo in Camarahan, Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City during the Arbor Day. (Rizza Bebs Alpas)
