CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Sep. 19 (PIA)–Stepping up campaign against coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, Barangay 19 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council held various activities including the Face Shield Making Contest and CO-KIT 19 or hygiene kits distribution in lieu of community quarantine since March 2020.
“Nagafocus gyud kami sa youth labi na ang kabatan-onan dili kaayo maka-expose sa gawas-gawas. Nag-focus mi sa social awareness kung unsa ka importante ang paggamit sa face shield and we turn it into something nga maghatag ug kalingawan ug mag-promote sa pag-stay at home,” Barangay 19 SK Chair Cary Rose Echem said during the CORDS-X Podcast with Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, September 19.
(We focus on the youth especially that they are not exposed to going outside of their homes. We focused on social awareness, on the importance of using face shields and we turn it into something entertaining as well as we promote the government’s staying at home campaign)
The Face Shield Making contest aimed to strengthen observance of minimum public health standards and each entry was judged based on originality, creativity and quality.
Only residents of Barangay 19 were allowed to join the contest and photos of entries were submitted to Barangay 19 Sangguniang Kabataan Facebook page.
The SK Council also ensures that enough information is disseminated to their constituents thus, in their CO-KIT 19 or distribution of hygiene kits, they also included infographics, pamphlets, and booklets on how to prevent COVID-19 infection.
As for the strict implementation of health protocols, Echem said residents of their barangay are very happy about it as they have noticed that other barangays have bystanders who are not wearing face masks and face shields; contributing to worries on possible increase of COVID-19 infection.
“Kung wala’y lakaw nga dili importante, dili ta maglakaw-lakaw. Mag-proper wear of face shield ug face mask ug mag-hand washing (If we have nothing important to do, let us avoid going outside of our homes. Let us wear proper face shield and face mask, and observe hand washing),” Echem added. (RTP/PIA10)
