LANAO DEL SUR Governor Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr. was ambushed this afternoon (Feb 17), at around 4pm in Maguing town, a sketchy report reaching Mindanao Daily News said.
The convoy of the governor was traversing a road leading to the municipality of Maguing when unidentified suspects peppered them with bullets.
The governor, it was learned, and his staff identified as Ali Macapado were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Kalilangan, Bukidnon for treatment. They both sustained gunshot wounds.
The governor was reportedly hit at his leg while four of his companions were hit in the fatal parts of their bodies which have caused their untimely demise.
Police authorities in Lanao del Sur province dismissed reports it was a case of “rido” or clan war as the governor has no known enemies.
The 103rd Infantry Brigade suspected that it could be the work of the ISIS group secretly operating in the province.
The police in Maguing town are now conducting a thorough investigation which will help lead to the identities of the suspects who immediately fled after the incident.
At press time no medical bulletin is available as to the health condition of the governor after the ambush.
