Bombit appeals for speedy probe of Guro ambush

ILIGAN CITY —- Lanao del Sur Provincial Governor Mamintal Adiong, Jr., has urged the Philippine National Police to conduct a speedy investigation into the ambush of a Lanao del Sur mayor, Wednesday morning (June 3), in Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.

 Major Ivan Viṅas, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said unidentified gunmen riding in a motorcycle fired on Mayor Somerado Guro’s black Toyota pick-up around 9:40 a.m.

 The 60-year old mayor was wounded while his wife, Rohaifa, 26, died latee in the hospital.

 “We are saddened by the news. Gov. Adiong sympathizes with the family of Mayor Guro. He hopes that the case will be resolved soon,” Jennie Tamano, provincial information officer, said in a message to the media on Wednesday afternoon.

 Tamano said the mayor was supposed to go to Marawi City to attend the 9AM meeting of the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19, when the incident happened.

 Guro’s driver Ibrahim Gani, 58 and a staff Abdul Rafi Guro, 19, were also wounded.

 Viṅas said Guro had just left his house in Iponan when fired upon by the suspects.
