BOC Davao inspects locally transported onion shipments

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Davao, through the Enforcement and Security Service, X-ray Inspection Project, and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, conducted a spot check on Oct. 11 on two containers with over 500 bags each of red onions to check whether the required permits and transfer documents were complied with before release to prevent the smuggling of agricultural products in the local market.

The shipments were transported from Nueva Ecija to the Port of Manila and arrived at KTC Container Terminal in Davao City.

No violations were committed during the transfer of the goods as representatives of the consignees were able to present the necessary transport documents, such as Clearance for Domestic Transport issued by the Bureau of Plant Industry, proofs of payment from the local supplier, and acknowledgment receipts from different warehouses.

BOC Davao District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria assured the public of the port’s commitment to curb agricultural smuggling in line with the 7-point priority program of Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz and in strict compliance to the order of President Ferdinand Maros, Jr. to curb agricultural smuggling.
