CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A native of Cagayan de Oro recently topped the Civil Engineering board exam recently held all over the country.
Garret Wilkenson Ching Sia, the exam’s first placer, hails from this city but studied civil engineering at De Lasalle University in Metro Manila.
Sia garnered a 92.10 percent exam rating based on the exam results reported by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC).
MDNN learned that there were actually two board passers who snatched the first place. One of those aside from Sia, was a graduate from Mariano Marcos State University-Batac campus. He was Alexis Castillo Alegado.
There were also top 10 placers from Mindanao and they were identified as Kyle Adrian Olivia, 5th placer from Mindanao State University; Jester Javier Silapan, 9th placer, from the University of Southern Mindanao – Kabacan campus; and Mohaimen Hadji Omar Pasawilan, 10th placer, from the University of Mindanao – Kabacan campus.
They were followed by Reden Christian Tandoc Mercado from Saint Louis University and Casmer Blah Dilangalen from University of the Philippines-Diliman who both got 90.45 percent.
Based on the PRC records, there were 5,887 out of 16,936 who passed the licensure examination, or 34.76 percent.
The exams, PRC said, were administered in National Capital Region, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Palawan, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga on April 23-24.
The top performing schools according to Philippine Regulation Commission were the following: De La Salle University-Manila with an 88.99 percent passing rate (97 out 109 examinees passed the licensure exams) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila with an 81.52 percent passing rate (75 out 92 examinees passed the licensure exams).
