BJMP police disarmed, CDO files criminal raps

CAGAYAN de Oro City–The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said that the police officers, who reportedly “harassed” the medical workers here, were disarmed pending results of the investigation.

Jail Inspector Danilo Delgado, the spokesperson of the BJMP in Northern Mindanao, said that the BJMP is waiting for the result of the investigation as the basis for their action while the police personnel are confined to their barracks at the BMJP compound in Lumbia.

“The BJMP wants to know what really transpired before it could take action,” Delgado said.

The BJMP’s statement came as Cagayan De Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno instructed the City Legal Department to file the appropriate criminal and administrative charges against the BJMP personnel.

Moreno said that he will not let the incident pass until the police officers are punished accordingly.

The city government sent medical technologists to conduct “swab testing” among inmates and personnel at the city jail in Lumbia as part of the city’s effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the city jail when the incident reportedly took place.

The medical workers formally filed a complaint with the Lumbia police about the alleged harassment of BJMP personnel who reportedly demanded that the result of the “swab tests” taken on them be given priority.

The medical workers, who admitted that it would take time before the result is processed, alleged that the BMJP personnel were angered and leveled a loaded gun on them.
