Bistek to presidential candidates: Respect PRRD’s neutrality
SENATORIAL candidate Herbert “Bistek” Bautista today called on all presidential candidates to respect the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to stay neutral in the race for his successor.
“President Duterte’s decision not to endorse any one deserves not only respect, but praise,” said Bautista.
“It should mean an assurance that no government resource would be used for any candidate whom the President will support,” said Bautista, who was mayor of Quezon City for three terms.
“It is a laudable move on the part of the President,” Bautista said.
While his daughter Sara is running in tandem with former senator Bongbong Marcos, Duterte refused to comment on whether he would support the team.
Duterte also said he would prefer to remain neutral in the presidential race.
“Everyone should respect that and not badger our President,” Bautista said.
One of the candidates who are said to be open to an endorsement by Duterte was Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
“If our President says he wants to stay impartial on his choice of candidate for president, then let’s take his word and stop pestering him about it,” said Bautista, who is running for senator under the Bongbong-Sara ticket on a platform of Internet reform, Livelihood for all and Youth development, or ILY.
Duterte also revealed that some candidates’ emissaries had reached out to him for his endorsement.
“Let’s not interfere with our President’s personal decisions,” said Bautista. #
